We are now seeking a Credit Controller to join our Finance team in Preston.
About the Role
This is a key role within our Finance function, responsible for ensuring the timely recovery of client debts and maintaining accurate financial records. You’ll work closely with fee earners, clients, and internal teams, playing an important part in supporting the firm’s financial health and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Recover client debts in line with agreed terms, including negotiating and managing payment plans.
Issue statements and debtor correspondence in accordance with firm policies.
Maintain accurate and comprehensive records of all credit‑control activity.
Work collaboratively with fee earners to support effective debt recovery.
Liaise with the Insolvency team when matters progress to litigation.
Respond promptly and professionally to queries from clients, fee earners, and the Compliance team.
Process card payments as required.
Support the processing and approval of outgoing payments.
Reconcile client matter ledgers accurately.
About You
You’ll bring confidence, clarity, and professionalism to every interaction. You’ll have a strong eye for detail, a proactive approach to problem‑solving, and the ability to build effective working relationships across the firm.
Essential Experience
Previous experience covering all aspects of credit control.
Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook and Excel.
Desirable Experience
Experience working within a legal or wider professional services environment.
Qualifications & Technical Skills
Familiarity with integrated financial management systems.
Strong working knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite.
